If you’re in the New York area, swing by NYU at 5:00 for an exhibition of four progressive experiments in social game design.
The No Quarter exhibit means to explore how arcades might be reimagined to restore their cultural relevance. To spark discussion, the NYU Game Center has commissioned three significant new games from independent game artists, and is displaying a fourth:
Mark Essen’s competitive swashbuckler Raging Hadron; Robin Arnott’s sound-based horror game Deep Sea; Matt Parker’s frantic and tactile Recurse; and Eric Zimmerman’s and Nathalie Pozzi’s strategic bargaining game Sixteen Tons.
The exhibition will be held at 721 Broadway, 9th Floor. Although the show is open to the public, the Game Center asks that visitors RSVP to gamecenter@nyu.edu. Food and wine will be served, all the better for the starving artists amongst us. If you miss the show, don’t worry. You can still wander by the lobby and check out the games as late as June 4th. You’ll be out a plate full of snacks, though.
Glad you liked it. Would you like to share?
