It is the year of the PlayStation 2. With the release of Windows 2000 and XP, Microsoft has officially disowned MS-DOS and twenty years of reverse compatibility. The rediscovery of PC legacy software would have to wait until the popularization of emulators like DOSBox in the mid-to-late 2000s.
