A side-scrolling action platformer apparently inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog (esp. the Marble Zone), but with a realisation closer to Wonder Boy. This title is remake of Calimero against the Black Empire, the first platformer from PPP Team programmed in BASIC between 1991 and 1993.
Gameplay comparison
- Calimero can take several hits before dying (versus "one-hit-kills" in BASIC)
- little matches and flame monsters "walking around"
- you can dispatch some monsters by throwing apples (keys / *)
- gravity-affected jetpack (keys . 1 3) instead of gravity-cancelling helicopter (in BASIC). This means, among other things, that you have to sacrifice one life to get out of the cave where you found that power-up.
- power-up (esp. jetpack) is acquired (key P) for the whole duration of the game, versus power-up that only last as long as you're alive in the BASIC version.
- you can control your flight after you touched a "bumper" in G-M version.
- if you fall from the sky, you safely land on the ground in G-M, while the BASIC version had that 8-bit non-scrolling scenes where falling in the "wrong place" of the screen could kill you, making the clouds much more hazardous to move on.
