Twelve years and counting, RSD's engine creaks along in near total anonymity. Elsewhere the web 2.0 era begins to click into place and games like The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker begin to show a long slide into creative doldrums for the mainstream industry. SNK Playmore produces its final King of Fighters game for the venerable Neo-Geo MVS hardware.
The independent and New Game Journalism movements begin to take off, at around the same time that blogging becomes common, leading to a more personal and analytical perspective on game criticism. Meanwhile a new generation of games like cly5m's Seiklus bring legitimacy to Mark Overmars' Game Maker, and the modern indie game movement begins to take form.
