My involvement with Game-Maker began with an ad in the back of VideoGames & Computer Entertainment, a short blurb about creating my own 256-color VGA PC games, and a shot of a rather intriguing box, covered with inscrutable snapshots suggesting all manner of game worlds just beyond my reach, yet as close as my imagination.
Formats
Started on 5-1/4" floppies, then moved to 3-1/2", then to CD. Printed, sturdy box. Ever-fattening manual. Both retained a bunch of early photos and illustrations. Lots of leaflets. A bunch of demo software.
Direct sales
Most sales, I think, came from directly contacting RSD and ordering from them.
Distribution

Online distribution
There was a demo version at one point, that users were encouraged to upload to local bulletin boards.
