Early on, users could sign up to a sort of mail order club where they would submit their own games for evaluation, and then every so often all the club members would receive a floppy filled with games from the community. Eventually RSD stopped this practice, due to low participation.
If you discount the Barracuda floppy included with early versions of Game-Maker (October 1992), the first user-derived games distributed by RSD went out October 10th 1993, on a 3.5" floppy labeled "Shareware Disk #1". The game contains the following games:
It also contains copies of PKZip 2.04G and LHA Version 2.13, Alchemy Mindworks' Graphic Workshop for both DOS and Windows, a batch file called "UNXFER.BAT" that serves to import a standalone game into early Game-Maker's convoluted directory structure, and a selection of template BBL and MAP files distributed under the name "Graphic Tools", meant to speed up game design.
A little over three months later (December 30th, 1993), a second disk went out labeled "Gameware Disk #1". Its contents include:
- A-J's Quest 2.1a
- Sheldon Chase's Desert Defender and Earth vs The Flying Saucers
- Matt Bell's Rocket and Paper Airplane
- Ronnie Toon's Santa is Back!
The listed artists all contributed one or more games to the Exchange.
