Multigames

Bergervoet is a Dutch fellow who goes under the developer name Multigames. In 1998, about three years after RSD pulled support for Game-Maker, Bergervoet found the software in a Doetinchem bargain bin. He paid 20-30 guilders (about 10 Euros or 12 US dollars), and threw together a few games.

Everything in his games is original; he drew all his own sprites and tiles, and seems to have recorded most of his own sound effects. His games do, however, seem to be strongly inspired by other, existing games.

There’s nothing odd about that, of course. Without Mario Bros. we wouldn’t have Bubble Bobble. Without Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble, we might not have a casual game industry. What is maybe a little odd is that both of his known games seem to be obviously based on A-J Games designs. Why A-J Games? Who knows!

After a few experiments Bergervoet soon moved on to Click and Create/Multimedia Fusion, and then to a career in game journalism.
