Story[edit]

A completely hand drawn video game in the works

The Dummy Duck five story

Many years ago, there was a duck named Dummy. He is still here now, but he was first here a long time ago, which is when this story takes place. He lived in a house in a nice neighborhood. He had lots of neighbors all around him on every side. They would often invite each other over for bar-b-q's and Christmas dinner or New Year's. Dummy was not the richest one in the whole neighborhood, so he couldn't buy very expensive presents, which was just fine with everyone else, because they were all nice people. Especially the guy next door. He let Dummy borrow his car once before Dummy was given the hamburger car he used to drive when he worked at the burger delivery place. And then after he quit, he had to give the car back, so now he borrows the car more often.

..... Did I mention it was a race car? Okay, well it was. Dummy is not a very good driver to say the least, but he's never gotten a ticket. He's pretty good at talking his way out of tickets. That's just because he's such a nice guy.

One interesting story has to do with the presence of MUNG in Dummy's everyday life. He has no idea what it is, but nobody seems to like it, and it is pretty soft, and it cleans up pretty easily, so he finds no harm in throwing it at people to give them the hint to go away. It does damage silk though, so you should warn him if you are wearing silk and he seems like he's getting irritated with you. My aunt had a silk dress ruined once, not by mung... but it just seemed relevant to the story.

Okay, sorry.....

So Dummy gets along with most everyone. He's been attacked by evil man-eating tomatoes in the past, and there was a big mess afterward, but that's how he met his good friend Lil' Red, who I'll try to explain right now is a TOMATO and not just a floating head which some people have thought in the past... but it is a simple mistake. No harm done. Though Lil' Red may get a little annoyed if you tell him to his face that he looks like a floating head. And Lil' Red is not one to get on your bad side. Being that he is a man-eating tomato. Although he has calmed down a bit.

The last time he really got upset was last November just before Thanksgiving. I have no clue what they were arguing about, but Dummy and Lil' Red got in this big fight over something, and Lil' Red just started biting Dummy's leg, Dummy was kicking him around, Lil' Red was shaking and flew off, and jumped right on top of him and chewed off Dummy's feathers off the top of his head, and Dummy had to wear a hat on his head for a month until they grew back.

Speaking of hats, in case you didn't know, Lil' Red always wears a hat. But his has a little propeller on top. It's this yellow and white striped beanie. He uses the little propeller on top to fly around since he's just a tomato, and doesn't have any arms or legs, so instead of rolling around on the floor where he might get stepped on, (which was the case for many of the man-eating tomatoes, which is why they never strike much fear into people. They usually just say SQUOOSH! And step right on them...) and since Lil' Red's so light, the beanie has no problem lifting him right off the ground. It's got a little battery and a motor i think in there. I'm not sure how he controls it. You'll have to ask him. I guess maybe he just uses the stem growing out of the top of his head to flip a little switch or something in it.

... Yeah, I bet that's it

Umm... and so Dummy didn't have a hat to wear for the first day or two, because he didn't have one, and, like he didn't want to go buy one or anything because he didn't want to go out without a hat. So, it's like he asked if he could borrow Lil' Red's beanie and Lil' Red got all upset, didn't want him to, because he thought that Dummy really wanted to squoosh him or something and so Dummy had to convince him that he wasn't going to or anything.

And so Dummy ended out having to put Lil' Red up really high on one of the cabinets or something, BUT then he had to make sure Lil' Red had everything he needed because he wouldn't move from that spot, because he didn't want to get stepped on... and like this big ordeal went on about Dummy having to fix up like this little room for Lil' Red ON TOP of the cabinet! And so Dummy put up a little TV and put a curtain around the top so Lil' Red could have some privacy. And so he gave Dummy the beanie for the day until he could buy himself a new hat, and Dummy detached the propeller so it would look like he was just wearing a yellow and white striped hat. And so he left to buy a new hat.

Well while Dummy was gone, his dog Foo-Foo started sniffing around the cabinet to see what was on top of it. While he was sniffing around, Lil' Red was trying to sleep, and Foo-foo was waking him up.

Background[edit]

Alan Caudel:

We had high hopes for Dummy 5, but it was ultimately left unfinished. Since Dummy 4 was an experiment in claymation, I felt like I had to try something new for part 5. The idea was to hand draw everything, scan in the drawings and make the game look like it was all drawn on a big piece of paper. I started working on it and it looked kinda cool. I finished the character and background for the first level. But sadly it wasn't meant to be. I never got any farther than that first level. It's too bad. I think that was around the time that computers stopped fully supporting MS-DOS programs. I think I got a new computer that couldn't run Game-Maker, and that was that. Kinda makes me sad to think about it.
