Todd Cope developed "A complete sequel to Super Mario World based mostly on Super Mario Bros. 3."

Background[edit]

This was an unofficial sequel to Super Mario World. The game layout was based on Super Mario Bros. 3, featuring the same kind of world maps and graphics that were blatant rip-offs. The game featured 8 worlds with completely original level designs and gameplay that was as close to the official Super Mario games as RSD Game Maker would allow me to make.

The background music was ripped from the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario 3. I figured out a way to make looped VOC format audio files that I could use as background music in Game Maker. This forced me to use PC speaker for sound effects but I think the overall audio experience was pretty good considering the tools I was working with.

The game didn't really resemble the original. Mario couldn't stomp enemies but he could get a fire flower.

This was a step down from the original but the gameplay worked decently enough.

One thing I didn't mention before was a trick I used to get digital music. I recorded music from the SNES Super Mario All-Stars version of SMB3. I used Creative's VOC editing utility to make them loop seamlessly. The music sounded great in-game, though I had to use PC speaker for sound effects as a result.
